The message is Jesus

by wordimpart

Our ever-reliable source of reference to God’s mighty works and presence with man is found in the pages of the Bible. The Bible is infallible, final in authority and an inspiration from God to bring salvation to mankind. In order to reach every man on the surface of the Earth, the mysteries of God’s word must be revealed, the power of God’s word must be demonstrated, the Grace of God’s word must be experienced and the love of God’s word must be shared. As a great privilege, God has given you and I the responsibility to spread His word and proclaim His Mighty Name in all Nations.

The Word of God is God’s very breathe that is presented as both written and spoken word. It is effective to bring transformation to a dying or lost or depraved soul. For this transformation to be realized, the word of God must reach man. One of the means to convey God’s word to everyone is to preach it. Bible says:

How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?

Romans 10:14

Our theme for the month of March is ‘Preach the Word’. In subsequent weeks we look forward to addressing what should be preached, who should be preached to, where to preach and when to preach. Our main scripture is taken from 2 Timothy 4:1-5 which says:

I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: 2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. 3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound[a] teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, 4 and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. 5 As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfil your ministry.

2 Timothy 4:1-5

Occasionally, you find many people getting excited about evangelism but when the call is made few people show up to do the work of evangelism. We are trusting God that this month’s theme will spur you to share God’s word with others and impact every sphere of society with God’s word. The title of this week’s post coined from our main theme is ‘The message is Jesus’. If we are charged to go and preach, definitely we have been given a particular message to preach and that message is Jesus.

The message is Jesus

The question on what to preach could be an issue especially in places where people desire to hear what pleases them. In Apostle Paul’s letter to Timothy, he charged him to preach the Word. The Apostle’s seriousness about this command to his son in the faith is evident in the fact that he calls God and Jesus Christ as witnesses [a]. The reason Paul gives Timothy this charge is revealed in the following verses. Also, Paul’s ministry was coming to an end [b] and for Timothy to continue what in his place, he commanded him to make the preaching of God’s word a priority. Not just that but to endure in teaching the truth.

In fact, what Timothy faced in his time is still present in our day, in that, today men desire to hear philosophies and theories rather than the truth. They prefer convenient services to ‘heart-convicting’ sermons. They lack understanding of the Truth and deny its power. However, in the midst of all these believers are charged to preach the gospel so that many who are lost can be saved. The word ‘preach’ means to declare or proclaim a message. So, the question is ‘What should be preached?’. The message to preach is the Gospel of Jesus. We are commanded to preach the gospel and tell of God’s love to all. Specifically, we are to speak about the following:

Jesus saves

God demonstrated His love for man while the man was depraved. It was the Father’s love that brought Jesus to take on flesh, to bear our sins, curses, poverty, punishments and nailed them to the cross. So that by His death you and I are no longer sinners but we have been made the righteousness of God. The power of God to save man from sin and its resultant damnation was mystically orchestrated through Jesus’ virgin birth, His vicarious death, His resurrection from the dead and His promise to return and judge both living and the dead. This is the message we are charged to preach and bring many to repentance so they can be saved. For the bible says:

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.

Acts 4:12

Jesus is the giver of life

The message that ought to reach all Nations is that without repentance and belief in Jesus man will pay the penalty of his sins which is death. For the wages of sin is death. This kind of death is eternal. But thanks be to God, that in Christ Jesus we who were bound to die have now inherited life. Jesus overcame death through His resurrection so that as many as believe in Him will be partakers of eternal life.  Jesus says:

I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live even though they die and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?

John 1:25

Jesus is the way

Jesus is the way, He is the truth, He is the life [c]. He is the example we ought to follow because He became a man was tempted in every way yet no sin was found in Him. There is no other person in all of creation that can lead us to God except Jesus. I like the way Apostle John puts it in John 10: 7-10

Therefore, Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. 8All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. 9I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

John 10: 7-10

The only way the Father can recognize us is by re-birth through belief in Jesus Christ. Not by works but by Grace through faith. For as many as receive Him them that believe in his name, he gave the power to become children of God.

Jesus is coming

All Nations must know that Jesus will Judge the living and the dead for their works done in the body. This makes it clear to man that His creator will hold him accountable for whatever he does [d]. At the end of his years on earth, man will be judged. This is one truth that is opposed fiercely by the enemy because by making people deny it, they live as though all there is to life is what we see. But that is not true. There is life after death [e] and what we do in this body determines where we will spend that life eternally.

Conclusion

These truths about salvation can be obtained in no one but Jesus. Unfortunately, many do not know about Jesus and live recklessly- pursuing carnal desires and are tossed to and fro by the devil. The message of Jesus is able to save but it needs to reach the dying, lost and depraved. In every corner of the world, you find yourself today let this charge revive you to preach the word and make Jesus known to all.

God bless you!

My attention has been drawn to the necessity of speaking to at least a person about the message of the cross everyday. Also this article points out that we should be prepared in season and out of season, be ready at anytime to seize the opportunity of speaking about the gospel to someone. Which means you should be consistent in prayers and the study of God’s word.
